AAW Members Talk Environmental Stewardship with EPA
USAgNet - 06/23/2017

At the American Agri-Women (AAW) D.C. Fly-In, members used it as an opportunity to tell their stories.

Shortly before the visit with the EPA, AAW was asked by the EPA if they had anyone who would "step aside and answer a few questions with our videographer. We are recording a short documentary film on how farmers and agribusiness leaders are some of the best stewards of the environment. They can just speak to what the environment means to them."

This request was read to those in attendance on the way to the EPA and nine members volunteered without hesitation. The volunteers were: Krystal Doolittle, Iowa; Kimmi Lewis, Colorado; Kim Bremmer, Wisconsin; Heather Hampton+Knodle, Illinois; Pam Selz-Pralle, Wisconsin; Pam Sweeten, California; Helle Ruddenklau, Oregon; Stacy Whitener, Texas; and Natalina Sents, Iowa.

"Thanks to all of these women for sharing their story of agriculture and the enviornment," said Jane Marshall, AAW vice preident of communications from Ohio.

"Farmers are America's front line environmentalists," said EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt. "Families and businesses involved in agriculture love the land, and rely on clean air, water and soil to produce crops and raise livestock. That's why it's important to give groups like American Agri-Women a platform to share their stories and environmental successes."

During the meeting with the EPA, these ladies took time away from the meeting to talk on camera. The EPA then put together a video with snippets from several of the ladies. They also created graphics with some ladies' photos and information from their interviews.

The video has been posted on YouTube and shared on Social Media by both the EPA and AAW.
