KCA Annual Convention Offered Dynamic Speakers
Kansas Ag Connection - 02/09/2010

Kansas Cattlemen's Association kicked off the new year with the 11th annual cattlemen's convention. This year, the speakers came with a message, know your rights, know your industry, and be an activist.

Tate Berlier from Silveus Insurance Group addressed how young people today are getting involved with mass media and networking websites to spread the message of animal and environmental stewardship. Dr. Dan Thomson of Kansas State University followed up the message by educating producers about the power and reach of animal rights groups and provided tips as to how producers can combat the false allegations of these extremists.

Constitutionality and property rights were heavily discussed by both law professor and candidate for Kansas Secretary of State, Chris Kobach and Paragon Foundation Executive Vice President GB Oliver.

With two days of stimulating speakers, the convention wrapped up with State Senator Jim Barnett. Senator Barnett discussed healthcare and his views for the future.

"KCA would like to thank all of the sponsors, exhibitors, and speakers for taking the time out to support and visit with cattlemen from across the state. We have had some of the best speakers ever, and it's important to keep apprised of what we can do as producers to keep our industry viable," said KCA Executive Director, Brandy Carter.

KCA Director Paul Acton stated, "the quality of the speakers at this convention were outstanding. Looking to November at our next convention, the level of speakers will be just as great. With the level of expertise that will be there, I would encourage everyone to attend the next convention, get involved, and enjoy the motivation that speakers will provide."
