Kansans Get Nearly Perfect Week for Fieldwork

For the week ending Sunday, there were 6.6 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 8% very short, 29% short, 61% adequate, and 2% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 8% very short, 30% short, 60% adequate, and 2% surplus.

Winter wheat planted was 14%, near 12% for both last year and the five-year average. Emerged was 1%, near 2% both last year and average.

Corn condition rated 5% very poor, 11% poor, 30% fair, 43% good, and 11% excellent. Corn dented was 96%, near 92% last year and 95% average. Mature was 67%, ahead of 55% last year, and equal to average. Harvested was 16%, equal to last year, and behind 22% average.

Soybean condition rated 4% very poor, 14% poor, 37% fair, 36% good, and 9% excellent. Soybeans dropping leaves was 48%, well ahead of 23% last year, and ahead of 34% average. Harvested was 2%, near 1% average.

Sorghum condition rated 2% very poor, 7% poor, 32% fair, 47% good, and 12% excellent. Sorghum coloring was 91%, ahead of 82% last year, and near 88% average. Mature was 32%, ahead of 18% last year, and near 28% average. Harvested was 2%, equal to last year, and near 5% average.

Cotton condition rated 1% very poor, 10% poor, 41% fair, 42% good, and 6% excellent. Cotton bolls opening was 41%, ahead of 24% last year and 32% average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 7% very poor, 18% poor, 38% fair, 34% good, and 3% excellent.
