Kansas Cotton Up 74 Percent, Sorghum Up 8

Based on November 1 conditions, Kansas's 2018 corn crop is forecast at 663 million bushels, down 3 percent from last year's production, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Area to be harvested for grain, at 5.10 million acres, is down 2 percent from a year ago. Yield is forecast at 130 bushels per acre, down 2 bushels from last year.

Sorghum for grain is forecast at 228 million bushels, up 13 percent from last year. Area for harvest, at 2.65 million acres, is up 8 percent from 2017. Yield is forecast at 86 bushels per acre, up 4 bushels from last year.

Soybean production is a record, forecast at 198 million bushels, up 3 percent from last year. Area for harvest, at 4.71 million acres, is 8 percent below 2017. Yield is forecast at 42 bushels per acre, up 4.5 bushels from last year.

Cotton production is a record, forecast at 342,000 bales, up 74 percent from last year. Acreage for harvest, at 159,000 acres, is up 69,000 acres from 2017, and a record high. Yield is forecast at 1,032 pounds per acre, down 19 pounds per acre from a year ago.
