Kansas Cotton Harvest Near 5-Year Average

For the week ending Sunday, there were 6.4 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 23% very short, 43% short, 33% adequate, and 1% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 23% very short, 41% short, 35% adequate, and 1% surplus.

Winter wheat condition rated 8% very poor, 18% poor, 45% fair, 26% good, and 3% excellent. Winter wheat emerged was 92%, near 88% last year and 91% for the five-year average.

Sorghum harvested was 95%, near 96% last year and 91% average.

Cotton condition rated 7% very poor, 16% poor, 29% fair, 44% good, and 4% excellent. Cotton harvested was 51%, behind 58% last year, and near 52% average.

Sunflowers harvested was 95%, near 93% last year, and ahead of 88% average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 14% very poor, 25% poor, 38% fair, 21% good, and 2% excellent.
