Colyer Signs Bill Creating Transportation Task Force
Kansas Ag Connection - 05/17/2018

Kansas Governor Jeff Colyer, M.D., Wednesday signed House Sub. for Senate Bill 391 at a ceremony in his office. The bill establishes the "Joint Legislative Transportation Vision Task Force." This task force will have a broad mission, which includes evaluating the progress of the current transportation program, making recommendations regarding the future needs of the state transportation system and identifying additional necessary transportation projects, among other duties.

"Kansas is a top-five state for total number of road miles in the country, largely because we are a rural state with a large geographic footprint," said the Governor. "Our state has a rich diversity of natural resources, and our sprawling transportation network is used to import and export products and materials for these crucial industries. We must continue to maintain our roads to maintain our state's economy. This task force will provide us with the in-depth knowledge to ensure we are making the right strategic decisions when it comes to our state's transportation infrastructure."

The task force will be comprised of committee leaders and members of the House and Senate, Kansas residents, industry stakeholders, local government representatives, and multiple cabinet secretaries. It will report its findings to the legislature by January 31, 2019.
