Kansas Ag Connection - 02/04/2010
Kansas State University's Beef Quiz Bowl Team won the national championship at the National Cattlemen's Beef Association Convention in San Antonio, Texas.
The winning team members are all K-State students: Anna Pesta from Locust, N.C.; Hyatt Frobose, Pemberville, Ohio; Clem Neely, Chanute, Kan. and Bain Wilson, Oak Hill, N.C.
The 2010 university teams in this contest earned the right to compete by winning their section of the American Society of Animal Science Academic Quadrathalon. The Midwest competition was earlier in Des
Moines with about a dozen teams competing.
"The Academic Quadrathlon and Collegiate Beef Quiz Bowl continue to develop future leaders by engaging them in competition and presenting the contestants with an opportunity to be part of professional
society meetings and the national convention," said Ken Odde, head of K-State's Department of Animal Sciences and Industry.
The bowl is a double-elimination competition. Each round consists of 25 questions.
Other institutions with teams competing in San Antonio included the University of Georgia and both Oregon State and Penn State universities.
