RAC Meeting in Wakefield Followed by Public Forum

The Kansas Water Office's (KWO) Kansas Regional Advisory Committee (RAC) meeting is scheduled for Oct. 7 at 9 a.m. at the United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 406 6th Street in Wakefield, Kansas. The committee will be finalizing work on the development of action plans to meet regional goals.

In conjunction with this meeting, a special forum will begin at 10:30 a.m., on the Implementation of the Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) Action Plan that has been approved by the RAC and the Kansas Water Authority. Affected stakeholders at Milford Lake, as well as downstream water suppliers, are being invited to discuss the impacts of HABs and current and proposed solutions as identified in the Action Plan. As a co-host of this forum, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will be taking public comments on the Lake Level Management Plan as a strategy to address the harmful algal blooms.

As the state's water office, KWO conducts water planning, policy coordination and water marketing as well as facilitates public input throughout the state.

The agency prepares the KANSAS WATER PLAN, a plan for water resources development, management and conservation. KWO also reviews all water laws and makes recommendations to the Governor and Legislature for needed legislation.
